Andy Quested started at the BBC in 1978 becoming a video-tape editor in 1985. Moving to the technology department introducing non-linear editing, stereo, widescreen, the BBC’s first HD programme Planet Earth I and the first UHD programme, Planet Earth II. At the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) Andy led the production strategic programme and continues to lead the EBU QC working group
Andy has led the ITU Working Party responsible for programme production for the last nine years where he initiated new work on Advanced Immersive Sensory Media Systems, Artificial Intelligence, Energy Aware Broadcasting and the use of componentized content creation. Andy also led the groups that developed the 2023 Emmy winning high dynamic range television (HDR-TV) standard. Andy is co-chair of the ITU accessibility group and the co-ordinator for Accessibility and Sustainability issues. Recently, Andy led the work to produce the new ITU-R Report on the future of broadcast production.
